The Perfect Wedding Makeup

The Royal Wedding has been blasted everywhere and I am here to bombard you once more. There’s no doubt that the Duchess of Sussex looked amazing on her wedding day. Her skin was flawless, her makeup was subtle and let her natural gorgeousness shine through, and of course she was glowing with happiness.

But, I want to talk about Lady Kitty Spencer. I became instantly OBSESSED with her look. Her skin is flawless. The soft brown smokey eye makes her light green eyes pop. Blush and highlight are perfectly placed and the pinky-coral lip is a perfect enhancement of her natural lip color. The look is light and elegant, yet very natural. According to US Weekly, her look was created by Charlotte Tilbury. I haven’t tried their products yet but it makes me itch for a trip to the makeup counter. My version is a little darker since I have darker features but I am really loving the result. Also, how have I never tried this blush placement?!

So, what do you think?! I am loving this look. It’s perfect for any wedding on your calendar. Would it be weird to wear this look every day? NOPE! 😉

Face: I started with Benefit POREfessional primer on my face and Laura Mercier eye primer on my lids. Under my eyes I used Mary Kay Undereye Corrector followed by Too Faced Born This Way foundation in Warm Nude. On top of that I used Too Faced Born This Way concealer in Light Medium for the highlight areas under my eyes, forehead, nose, and chin. I know many people love the Beauty Blender but I am just not a fan. I use Sephora Pro Flawless Airbrush brush #56 and love the airbrushed look it gives. I set everything with Mary Kay Translucent Powder. Over the highlighted areas, I used Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting powder. It gives a lightly diffused highlighted look without being too bling-y. I love it under my eyes. Using Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer I very lightly contoured my cheek bones and nose. Right above the contour I used Mary Kay Shy Blush. On my cheekbones and caring it up to my temple I used a powder highlight that I have. It’s been depotted and there’s no name on the back but I am almost positive it’s from Julep.

Eyes: I started with Enlight from the Jaclyn Hill palette all over my lids followed by M.F.E.O. from the same palette on the lid taking the color up to the brow bone and just under the brow itself. I used Winning Ticket from the Color Pop You Had Me At Hello palette (loving this one!) in the crease with a touch of Caramelized from the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette along my lash line. I lined my eyes with Marc Jacobs Fineliner in Truffle. I used Tartiest Lash Paint on my lashes, followed by Benefit Rollerball mascara to lengthen them a bit more.

Lips: Her lips are a great coral-nude color. I used one that is more pink from Bare Minerals: Swag. Looking back, my Julep Lip Oil is Obsession would have been a great color as well.

What was your favorite look from the Royal Wedding?

Makeup Update

Before moving to Hawaii I solely used Mary Kay products.  I was a consultant at the time and really loved (and still love much of) the lineup.  When I moved, for several reasons, I decided to check out some other skin care and makeup lines for the first time in a few years and thus this blog was born.  While it’s transitioned, and continues to evolve into other topics I still have a love of all things beauty and want to give you all an update on some of my current favorites.

I have been checking out some new products and trying to consolidate my routine into a quick and easy 5 minute face.  Things I refuse to leave the house without:  eyebrows, blush, under eye corrector and mascara.  Everything else is negotiable.

Foundations:  I am currently loving Too Faced Born This Way foundation.  It’s lightweight, the color match is perfect, and it’s helped improve my skin texture and tone.  The coverage is medium and buildable.   Not since my MK days have I repeatedly bought the same foundation.  About a month ago I bought my second bottle of this.  I will say that if you have uber oily skin, you may want to get a sample of it to see how it works with your skin type.  My skin has been more normal than oily so even in the heat this stays put.

CC Creams:  I am on the hunt for something I can throw on over my primer (Benefit Porefessional is my go-to).  I am playing with Arbonne Intelligence CC Cream as well as bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream.  The Arbonne product is a medium coverage and there are limited shades which makes it harder to match.  The consistency is a little heavier as well so I feel like I need to use a foundation brush to get an even coverage.  Complexion Rescue is much lighter but still provides a good coverage.  I like that a tiny bit goes a long way and I have quickly put it on with my fingers which saves even more product (make sure your hands are clean!!).  The verdict is still out on which one I will prefer on those days when I need to get ready in a quick minute.

Blush:  My favorite is Julep Glow Pore Minimizing Blush in Peach Bellini.

Concealer/Corrector:  Japonesque Color Velvet Touch Concealer and the NYX Color Correcting palette.  Mary Kay also just launched a new line of liquid concealers along with an under eye corrector that I am looking forward to trying!

Brows: For awhile now I have been loving the MAC brow pencil in Lingering.  Recently I got the itch to try Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade again.  I changed up the shade this time to the soft brown instead of medium brown and I am liking it much better.  I will say that I am much faster with the pencil though.

Shadow:  I have a limited edition 4 shade palette in Chai Latte from Mary Kay that is my quick and easy go-to when I am in a hurry.  It’s a great neutral that I can wear at any time.

Liner: I have recently fallen in love with Kat Von D Tattoo Liner but when I am in a hurry this long lasting liquid formula is not forgiving so for those grab and go days I prefer a pencil.  Motives or NYX have been great options.  I personally greatly dislike gel pencils.

Mascara:  I’ve been using Benefit Roller Lash for awhile and I really like it.  It adds length, volume, curl, and still looks natural.  Another item I can’t wait to get my hands on is the new Mary Kay Lash Intensity Mascara.  Instagram some pictures…it looks AMAZING!

I am typically a balm or gloss girl.  With my lips being so chapped recently, regular old vaseline has been the only thing that has helped.  I did recently get Julep Tinted Lip Oil Treatment in Obsessed (red) and I have to say it’s my new favorite thing.  It acts like a lip stain without drying out your lips, it’s super sheer so it’s not as bold as a lipstick, lasts for a long time and the best part is that it’s not sticky at all.  I plan on getting it in Covet as well (pink).

So, there are my go-to items.  When I am in a rush, I don’t use everything but I have gotten this routine down to a pretty short timeframe.

What are your must have items?!

Sephora Haul Part 1

So the Sephora VIB Sale ended a little over a week ago and I hear it’s the best they offer each year!  I have only just started shopping at Sephora (since for the past 3 years I only used one brand) so time will tell!  I ended up placing 2 orders and my second one was so delayed I haven’t had a chance to really try out some of my new goodies yet.  Apparently everyone else wanted in on the 20% off EVERYTHING action as well!  You can’t blame them, it’s a great deal!

Too Faced The Return of Sexy Pallet and Shadow Insurance:  I LOVE the pallet!  The shadows are vibrant, blend so smoothly, pigmented and this pallet has each color scheme I typically wear.  I found it while looking for a pallet I can take with me when I travel over the holidays that would give me some color choice.  I have a few other Too Faced pallets that I love so I was really looking forward to trying this one out and it does not disappoint.  There are SO MANY color combinations that you can create, plus it comes with the eye liner and primer.  Neither of which I am a total fan though.  The liner is super soft so if you aren’t super careful you could end up with a mess-which I did the first time I tried it because I wasn’t expecting it to be so soft.  The opposite end does have a smudger though so I am a fan of the 2 tools in 1.  The primer is not my favorite.  First off, it smells funny which may not be the primers fault.  The humidity has picked up here and the package did sit outside all afternoon before I got home from work to pick it up so all of my concerns could be the heat, but it could not be.  I also feel like it doesn’t really even out the skin tone on my lids and it creases as if I wasn’t wearing a primer at all.  I will say though, that at $49 it is worth every penny and then some.

The rest of my order was full of minis!  I love discovering new brands, products, and colors through minis.  The first set was a 500 point set from Buxom.  I have never really used their products before but I used the gloss and the lipstick and they both are great.  Neither one comes off as purple as in the packaging and it’s really flattering on my light beige skin tone.  The mascara, liner, and bronzer haven’t been used yet.

2014-11-22 15.05.47My other mini set was this Prepped and Prime set gift with purchase.  Here’s what I have used:

1-Living Proof Satin Hair Serum:  I have started using this brand for my hair care and I like it.  I will review other items later but this helps keep the frizz down with the humidity out here

2-Glam Glow Powermud Dual Cleanse Treatment:  This made my skin feel smoother and pores clearer.

3-Benefit Stay Flawless Primer:  There are a few things wrong with this primer and I think they all could be solved with a different delivery method.  Having this as a stick primer makes it difficult to get a good coverage.  It does not blend once you put it on so if you miss a spot, it shows.  Also, with my oily skin it didn’t do anything special to make me buy it over the Lancome one that I am currently loving or even Benefit’s own POREfessional.

Be back soon with Sephora Haul Part 2 and some other fun stuff to share!
