A Touch of Citrus

Orange.  I know I am a bit late to this party, but the color is everywhere.  I mostly see it on lips but I am more of a bold eye/soft lip look kinda gal.  Plus, when I saw orange popping up my first thought was, “no way!”  The trick is getting the right shade of orange to compliment your skin tone.  My interest in the color actually started when I got the Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balm in Orange You Lovely.  I figured I’d give it a try and as a tinted balm it would probably be pretty mild.  I was right and I was surprised I actually really like the color!  So I experimented with some other oranges from my stash and this is what I got:

I think the trick to making this look work was that each of the orange tones had a bit of melon tones in them too rather than a bold tangerine color.  Not sure that I could have pulled it off otherwise!  It’s such a great summer BBQ look!  It was a bit brighter than I normally wear but I was really happy with how the look turned out.

Eyes:  I started with my Mary Kay Eye Primer which I LOVE and layered the yellow shade, which is very sheer, from the Springy Eye Duo in Summer Sunset (limited edition) to add an extra layer to make the orange eyeshadows stay true to color.  I used the orange color from the same duo just on the lid to create a layered look with the idea of an orange ombre as you go towards the brow.  I then used the orange color from the Mary Kay At Play Baked Eye Trio in Sunset Beach in the crease, and the highlighter on the brow bone and right along the center of the last line into the inner corner of my eye.  The next step was to BLEND!

Lips:  Just the Mary Kay At Play Triple Layer Tinted Balm in Orange You Lovely.  It’s a great splash of color and hydration on the go.

Cheeks:  Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush.  This is a a great peachy color with a little shimmer.
