When I first found out I was pregnant I had all these ideas to create one of those weekly posts with me standing next to a chalkboard with that weeks stats/events on it. Well, that lasted for about 3 weeks! So I’m currently jotting down all of these updates in a notebook and I’ve started a Shutterfly book which I’ll share when completed. Let’s be honest, that post will more than likely come about 6 months after the baby. In the meantime here are a few updates (the 3 things I’m most commonly asked about) for family and friends who I don’t see often or those with baby fever.
Gender: Girl. Up until about a week before our anatomy ultrasound we swore we were having a boy. Almost every old wives tale pointed to a boy and it was kinda just a gut feeling. As the ultrasound approached I couldn’t get the “what if” out of my head. Then, of course we found out and I started thinking about all of the fun glittery clothes I could buy for a girl!
Cravings: in the beginning all I wanted was comfort food. Not that I was necessarily craving it but while I didn’t have true morning sickness I constantly felt queasy and knew that a Taco Bell bean and cheese burrito would fix that. As I progressed into my second trimester I was able to tolerate fresh veggies and I ate pretty healthy for awhile. I had, and still have, an aversion to meat by itself. I can eat ground beef in an enchilada but a grilled chicken breast grosses me out. I’m kind of hoping this aversion stays for multiple reasons. I also had an aversion to sugar, which is odd because I typically am all about the small indulgences-mainly any type of cake or cookie. Well, a few weeks ago that craving came back stronger than ever! Maybe that’s why I tripled my weight gain last month! Current cravings: decaf mochas.
Weight: I actually haven’t gained a ton of weight. When I got pregnant I was the heaviest I’ve ever been, yet the thinnest and fittest I’ve ever been. I worked out regularly, built up some muscle mass and ate pretty well. I actually ended up losing weight my first trimester. Probably a mix of no longer working out (bye bye muscle mass) and not having much of an appetite. Weight loss in the first trimester is totally normal FYI. In the second trimester I starter to gain a few pounds per month, right on target. I’m now gaining weight like crazy! Apparently my body wants to pack all 25-35 recommended pounds on at once.
Overall things are going really well! I’m currently at 31 weeks and with roughly 9 more to go, nerves are starting to come into play. This is my first baby so I guess it’s the fear of the unknown and all of the “what if” questions. I’m really excited to meet our super active little bundle in the near future. In the meantime we are getting her room ready, studying up on L&D info, and enjoying this season in our lives.
